Better Housing 2010

Newsletter of the Development Program - September 2005

The common vision in the real estate and construction cluster is to create an occupant oriented housing market by 2010, which means good quality, moderately priced and diversified houses.

The target of Better Housing 2010, intended to be a 5-year program, is to develop good quality housing in accordance with inhabitants needs. The program focuses quite extensively on housing, starting from architecture and covering renovation, maintenance and other services.

Living conditions are meant to promote well being as well as good working conditions for people of all ages. It will also include important issues such as city planning, housing policy and the financing of residential construction. Design, renovation and other housing services should be versatile and easily available.

The research activities of the program extends from the basic research to the technology development.

The program is closely linked to new housing areas and construction sites where ideas of Better Housing 2010 will be demonstrated and piloted.

The preparation phase of the program was financed by TEKES National Technology Agency of Finland and The Ministry of Environment along with the housing industry.

Several research institutes have been employed to work with the project. The Finnish Real Estate Federation will take care of the project management. Other partners are The Confederation of Finnish Construction Industries RT, and The Federation of Housing Property Owners and Developers ASRA.

The program will be created in cooperation with international professionals. The ultimate goal is to strengthen internationally competitive business in all sections of housing. Networking and communication are also at the core of the project. Better Housing 2010 is based on state construction and housing policy and the preparation phase was completed at the end of 2004.
